The Dr. America Radio Show, hosted by DC AAP member, Dr. Sanjeev Sriram, on WeActRadio, recently spent an episode addressing homelessness in America, and specifically in the District. DC AAP Resident Board Member, Dr. Ankoor Shah, was interviewed regarding the effect of homelessness on child health and about DC’s homeless policies. Dr. Shah illustrated that homeless children are at particularly high risk of serious health problems, emotional distress, and physical abuse. Actually only 30% of homeless adolescents actually complete high school or a GED. Due to an increase in homelessness, less available shelter rooms, and a colder winter – the District’s homeless may have the toughest year yet. However, by working together, increasing funding, and creating child centered policies – massive improvements are within reach.

In the beginning of the show, Dr. Sriram interviewed homeless advocate Eric Sheptock; then at minute 38 he starts his interview with Dr. Shah.
