dc-public-school-lead-testing-results

As many of you are aware, there was significant media attention this spring regarding findings of lead in water sources within DC Public School buildings, DC Public Charter School buildings, and other public facilities.  The DC Department of General Services has been conducting annual lead testing and remediation of drinking water sources in DCPS buildings since 2007, but developed a new communication protocol this spring to ensure school officials and families receive timely updates when testing and remediation occurs.

Results of the latest water testing within DC Public Schools are available on the DC Department of General Services (DGS) website, including Frequently Asked Questions.  This summer, DGS proactively placed filters on all drinking water sources.  Non-drinking water sources are now labeled as such so that students do not drink water from them.  The final water testing and remediation policy is under City Council review.  A letter summarizing the information above was sent to DCPS parents this fall.
