Many US Beaches Harbor too Much Fecal Bacteria
WASHINGTON (7News) — If you’re swimming at one of America’s ocean or lake beaches this summer, or diving into a refreshing river, you may be jumping into more than just the water.
Every year, millions find themselves cooling off in contaminated lakes, rivers, and ocean water.
“We still live in a country where we have billions of gallons of sewage overflows every year and runoff pollution, both of which contain pathogens that can make swimmers sick,” said John Rumpler, Clean Water Program Director for Environment America.
