The District of Columbia WIC program has added Similac Total Comfort and Similac Sensitive for Fussiness and Gas to the approved formulary.
- Both require a medical prescription.
- Both formulas are authorized in the 12.0 oz powdered can only.
DC WIC policy authorizes these formulas for the following indications:
- Similac Total Comfort is authorized for infants with persistent feeding issues including Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD).
- Similac Sensitive for Fussiness & Gas is authorized for infants with primary lactase deficiency (a rare condition) or a gastrointestinal condition that decreases lactase activity such as chronic diarrhea, prolonged antibiotic use, GI surgery or cancer chemotherapy.
