1 CME – 1 Hour to Complete
Activity Description and Educational Objectives
Learn how to make electronic referrals to DC WIC resources. Dr. Karen Ganacias leads this online presentation on a new referral tool available to DC providers. The referral system builds on MedStar’s electronic health record and offers an innovative social network application called Findhelp as a bi-directional communication link between providers and DC WIC services. You do not need to be a MedStar employee to access the Findhelp portal. Web access is available outside an institutional electronic medical record.
This activity is designed to enhance practitioners’ knowledge of WIC resources and eligibility, improve their competence in using the FindHelp platform for referrals, and increase their ability to track and communicate about referrals to DC WIC. Improved practitioner performance is expected to lead to better patient outcomes through more efficient, better bi-directional communication and more accurately documented referrals to WIC services.
- To explain resources offered by the WIC program
- To describe eligibility requirements for potential WIC applicants
- To demonstrate how to use the WIC application referral through the FindHelp platform
- To practice using the tracking function and communication methods with DC WIC
