LGBTQ Resources

We know that LGBTQ youth are facing additional challenges in the face of COVID. In addition to social isolation, you may be managing a living in close quarters with family members who are not supportive of your identity. The following resources are specifically geared to LGBTQ youth.

** If you are experiencing an acute mental health crisis now seek help immediately by calling 911 or the National Suicide Hotline if you are having thoughts of harming yourself.  There is also a crisis hotline specifically for trans individuals. ** The following emergency resources are also available: 

Mental Wellness and Safe Living for LGBTQ+

SMYAL is a non-profit organization in DC that provides safe and supportive environments to empower LGBTQ+ youth

LGBTQ+ youth are also more likely to become homeless during the pandemic. Casa Ruby remains open during the pandemic

Where can I find a community?

Sometimes it is important to connect with peers who do not question your identity. Here is a list of virtual chat rooms for LGBTQ+ from the National Association of School Psychologists,  that allow youth to connect with a supportive peer group.
